Hulu’s television adaptation of Sarah J. Mars’s highly popular romantic book series, “The Court of Thorns and Roses,” has been officially discarded.
The project, produced by Disney’s 20th TV, has been in Hulu’s development stage (Disney Properties) since March 2021. Maas partnered on TV scripts alongside the creators of “Outlander” on “Acotar” (as the series is known to fans). Ronald D. Moore.
The show isn’t given many updates as both writers and actors in the summer of 2023 are pausing for almost all scripted production and development.
Last February, TVLine reported that the “Thorns and Roses Court” TV series was no longer developed on Hulu and that it hadn’t even shopped on other platforms. At the time, sources told Variety that the show was still technically still under work, but it was no longer in active development, and Disney’s 20th TV had the rights until the end of summer 2025. Maas is considering bringing “Acotar” television adaptation rights to another studio and platform once the options expire at Disney.
The 20th TV and Hulu declined to comment. MAAS representatives have not yet responded to the variety demands.
The first article in the “Thorns and Roses Court” novel series, centered around 19-year-old Huntress Fale Archeron, was published in May 2015. Following the success of the first novel, Maas has four titles titled “A Court of Mist and Fury,” “A Court of Wings and Ruin,” “A Court of Frost and Starlight,” and “A Court of Silver Flames.” A sequel has been released. The sixth book in the series is currently planned with no release date.
