Girish Kumar got three nominations for his first film, but after just one more release, he quit acting and became the COO of a Rs 100-crore company.

In the early 2010s, new talent continued to enter Bollywood. Young actors like Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Sidharth Malhotra have entered the industry. Almost all of them went on to successful careers. However, not everyone from the early 2010s class became future stars. One person in particular quit the film industry right after his debut, but returned to the industry as a big name in a big company. (Also read: I want to create my own identity: Girish Kumar)

Girish Kumar Taurani acted in only two feature films before quitting acting.

Actor who quit film despite critically acclaimed debut film

Girish Kumar made his acting debut in 2013 with Prabhu Deva’s romantic drama Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The film is a remake of the director’s Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which also starred Shruti Haasan. The film’s music was a hit, despite its average box office collection. However, Girish achieved some recognition and was nominated for Best Debut or Newcomer in three award shows. After this, Girish appeared in only one romantic comedy, Rabshuda, starring Navneet Kaur Dhillon, which was released in 2016. Following the film’s critical and commercial failure, Girish bid adieu to acting. However, due to his pedigree, he was never far from the world of movies.

Girish Kumar’s bottom of the second inning

Girish is the son of film producer Kumar S. Taurani and nephew of Ramesh S. Taurani. The Taurani brothers, the founders of Tips Industries, are among the most powerful and influential figures in the Indian entertainment world. After giving up his acting career, Girish entered the family business and helped his father and uncle run the Tips empire. Currently, he is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tips Industries, a central role in one of India’s largest entertainment companies. According to Moneycontrol, as of December 2024, the market capitalization of Tips is INR10,517 billion.

Girish Kumar’s incredible wealth

Mr Girish’s stake in the family business has enabled him to amass considerable wealth for himself, meaning he is richer than many of his successful contemporaries and predecessors. According to Trendlin, Girish’s assets are approximately INR2,164 million. This made him richer than his contemporaries like Ranbir Kapoor ( INR400 million), Ranveer Singh ( INR245 million), Varun Dhawan ( INR380 million), even superstar Aamir Khan ( INR190 billion).

Girish is married to his childhood sweetheart Krishna. They have one child. The family lives in Mumbai and Girish is a promoter and executive at Hint Music.
