Los Angeles (FOX 9) – The Recording Academy will award Prince a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in February.

What we know: Prince, who died of an accidental overdose in 2016, recorded with Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Roxanne Chanté and Frankie Valli. -One of seven recipients of the Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Recording Academy’s National Board of Directors will vote on the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to someone who has “made a creative contribution of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording during their lifetime.”
Let’s take a closer look: Prince is a seven-time Grammy winner and has sold more than 150 million records. Three of his albums have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, including “1999,” “Purple Rain” and “Sign of the Times.” The Minnesota native is “considered by many to be the greatest artist of all time,” according to a press release.
“Diamonds and Pearls: Super Deluxe Edition,” a project for which Prince participated as mastering engineer, has also been nominated for Best Historical Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremony will be held at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles on February 1, the day before the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
