In an industry that has seen a flurry of postponements and cancellations in recent years, three upcoming Marvel movies may be shelved entirely.
Marvel has been one of the most reliable universes when it comes to releasing projects since the MCU began in 2008 with Iron Man.
Since then, dozens of Marvel projects have hit theaters, both within the MCU as well as other franchises such as Sony’s Spider-Man universe (which also includes Venom, Madame Web, and the new Kraven). , I can’t see the future. Some of the planned releases are bright.
Three Sony Marvel movies may be canceled after ‘Kraven’ release
According to a recent report from The Wrap, Sony’s Spider-Man universe is set to end (at least for the time being) with the release of Kraven the Hunter.
This means any project set in that world and scheduled to be distributed by Sony will likely be canceled indefinitely. Fans can expect an official announcement from Sony sometime after Kraven’s record-breaking theatrical release on Friday, December 13th.
Below are three movies set in Sony’s Spider-Man universe that are currently in jeopardy of cancellation.
Knull/Symbiote Film
Venom: The Last Dance may have concluded Tom Hardy’s time in the Sony Spider-Man universe as Eddie Brock, but the film’s post-credits scene hints that he’ll be playing Knull or another character in the future. It was hinted that there would be at least one movie about symbiotes.
The Last Dance has two post-credits scenes, both of which hint that there’s more to be said in the Sony Spider-Man universe.
The first scene in the middle of the credits features Knull saying, “Your champion has fallen, the King in Black has awakened. Your world will burn, and you will watch!” This scene pretty much confirms Sony’s major plans for Knull to return in future films or headline his own movie.
The next post-credits scene only reaffirmed that concept, showing a broken vial among the wreckage. A key part of this scene was that the vial was supposed to contain a symbiote, teasing that it was on the loose and would be investigated in future projects.
Sony has never officially announced any projects involving Knull or the escaped symbiote, but The Last Dance’s post-credits scene more or less hints that there will be at least one movie, if not more. was confirmed.
But now that Sony’s Spider-Man universe is reportedly ending with Kraven, that possibility may be dead.
el muerto
At CinemaCon 2022, Sony announced that it will produce a movie titled El Muerto starring Bad Bunny. The movie was supposed to be about a superpowered luchador, which isn’t surprising given Bad Bunny’s love and experience in the professional wrestling industry.
During the announcement, Sony even brought Bad Bunny on stage, showing that El Muerto was being taken seriously and that his release was almost certain.
But Bad Bunny is one of the most popular artists in the world. According to Variety, his tour dates conflicted with El Muerto’s schedule, which affected the film’s development.
It is also worth noting that the script appears to have undergone multiple revisions, making it increasingly unlikely that El Muerto will ever be published.
However, Sony still gave fans hope as El Muerto was not canceled. It’s safe to assume now that El Muerto will never see the light of day.
Hypno Hustler
In late 2022, Donald Glover will reportedly produce and star in a film set in the Sony Spider-Man universe called Hypno-Hustler.
The film will be based on the Spider-Man comic book character of the same name and will explore his ability to use hypnotic techniques as a device to extort money from audiences.
When the film was first reported, Glover’s involvement would go down in history. He also appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, making him the first actor to be cast as two separate main live-action characters in the Spider-Man series.
It’s also worth noting that Miles Murphy is reported to be the film’s screenwriter.
After the initial reports about Hypno Hustler, no notable news was revealed. So while there may have been no chance for this film to be made, that hope is now almost certainly gone.
Sony’s Spider-Man universe will reportedly end with the release of Kraven the Hunter on Friday, December 13th. Read more about the negative reviews for Craven before its release.
