The OnePlus 13 launched globally earlier this week, along with the more affordable 13R. This flagship model is a bit pricey, but the 16/512GB option is available at a $100 discount, bringing the price down to last year’s OnePlus 12 price. There is a cheaper 12/256GB model, but there is no discount.
We took the OnePlus 13 on a photography tour of Sri Lanka. A detailed review is available. Also check out our video review. The company is working on four OS updates and six years of security patches.
The OnePlus 13R will be released next week and will be available for purchase with a $100 gift card. The 13R is like a “lite” version of its flagship sibling. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 instead of the 8 Elite, and the 6,000mAh battery only supports 80W wired charging (but no wireless). This generation also features a telephoto camera, a 50MP 47mm unit with 2x optical zoom and 4x in-sensor zoom. It doesn’t have the reach (or optical stabilization) of the 13’s 50MP 73mm module, but it’s hard to beat the 13R in terms of value for money.
Another phone that has recently expanded into markets around the world is the Red Magic 10 Pro. It’s a gaming phone powered by an actively cooled Snapdragon 8 Elite (thanks to a built-in fan) and features a 6.85-inch 144Hz OLED display with an under-display camera and square corners. This is different from most on the market. The 50MP main (1/1.5-inch, OIS) and 50MP ultrawide cameras are decent, but still focused on gaming. To this end, the phone packs a massive 7,050mAh battery with 80W charging.
Speaking of gaming, Lenovo announced the Legion Go S handheld console this week. What’s unique about this is that it’s the first handheld to come with SteamOS out of the box, aside from the Steam Deck itself. However, only the Windows 11 version is currently available. I’m using an old AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU configured with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The cheaper version uses the new Ryzen Z2 Go chip.
If you’ve been keeping an eye on CES announcements, you can’t miss Nvidia’s new GPU lineup. Best Buy has three new cards on pre-order: the GeForce RTX 5070, 5080, and the top-of-the-line RTX 5090. These are Founders Editions, which are dual-slot cards, but most partner brands opt for thicker coolers. We’ll have to wait for the review to see if Nvidia’s cooling solution is good enough (especially since the 5090’s TDP is 575W).
