It’s been a while since the Caribbean Pirates franchise was heavily updated on Disney’s upcoming installments.
In fact, the last time Jerry Brookheimer spoke to one of the deals about the film was this December, and he still said the film could move in two possible directions. Speaking to Variety, the Hollywood producer said the next film in development will have two alternative scripts. One could bring Johnny Depp back to the series, while the other could move in a different direction.
Depp’s involvement appeared entirely dependent on whether he and Disney could settle after a highly publicized fallout following the honour-damaged trial against Amber Heard.
It’s easy for Disney to move forward without an actor, but we received some information that suggests he’ll end up coming back.

Currently, one source shows Walt Disney Studios is quietly preparing and starting production on one Hollywood Soundstage with the next article in the series. There is no timeline for when production officially begins, but I’ve heard that this entry features Depp returns.
Unfortunately, no other details regarding production were available. I also couldn’t get a second source to check the information. Therefore, I decided to implement this information as a “rumorrow” rather than “exclusive.” So, like all the other rumors we run on the site, we ask readers to take it with a grain of salt, at least until Disney or any of the major deals confirm/expose it. I would like to encourage them to.
Before Bruckheimer’s comment on variety in December, rumors were fussing about making waves on the internet. One involved Ayo Edebili, who appears in a film that handed the torch to a new generation of young pirates. Another included a full new reboot of the series.
Whatever your Disney plan, if our sources are correct, we are sure we will get news about the next Pirates movie soon!

In 2020, reports surfaced that Harley Quinn himself would star in a female-led reboot from Bumblebee author Christina Hodson. This project is not a spinoff, but a new story with new characters set in the Pirates Universe. Despite rumors from last year, the project was x, franchise producer Jerry Brookheimer said, “I think that script will move forward at a certain point. We’re talking about the Pirates. We’ve developed two different stories and the other one is on the way ahead first, so that’s what we’re working on.
The franchise began with Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Ride Attraction, which opened in Disneyland in 1967. The attractions can be found at four Disney theme parks. Since then, it has become a money maker. The five films have earned more than $4.5 billion at the box office worldwide. The franchise has also become a revenue booster for video games, products and more.
