What will we see this weekend?

It’s not the biggest weekend of new streaming TV shows and movies, but it’s a pretty big weekend if you’re interested in sports. Super Bowl LIX – the 59th NFL Championship Game – kicks Sunday at the halftime show found by hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar. This time, the Kansas City Chiefs will be back against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chiefs won the final two championship games. Last year they won the San Francisco 49ers 25 to 22. A year ago they beat the Eagles 38-35. . If they win this year, it will be the first time a team has won three consecutive Super Bowls. It’s impressive, even if you think we’re all a bit tired of playing the same team every year. The chief is basically a New England patriot.
Either way, read on what else you can find this weekend. As always, I spend every week finding all the new things you can watch on all the different streaming services. I wrote and tested “What With Wath of the Week” to post on the Monday of the week, and while I think it’s a very useful post, it didn’t hit the same nerve as the weekend streaming guide. Apparently. I have no choice!
If you have any hints or missed something, take a picture of your message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Check out last weekend’s streaming guide.
What’s new and interesting to watch this weekend?
Invincible – Season 3 (Prime Video)
The excellent animated superhero series by Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, is back this week. The first three (out of the seven) episodes have already been released on Prime Video. This is a great show with excellent writing, characters and a compelling story, but it’s so dark, cynical and violent that it’s enough to live up to expectations that bring you closer to the boys than the Avengers. New episodes will drop every Thursday over the next four weeks.
Apple Cider Vinegar (Netflix)
An Australian series on the feud between two young health and wellness influencers. One of them pretends to suffer from all sorts of illnesses to gain popularity and sell bad medical products and advice to the public. Kaitlyn Dever (Abby in The Last of Us) plays Belle Gibson, The Fraud and Alycia Debnam-Carey (of Fear The Walking Dead Fame). Both characters are based on real people. Dever’s character is named after the actual Belle Gibson, while Debnam-Carey’s character is based on Jessica Ainscough. It looks pretty good, and Dever really nails that Australian accent! All six episodes are released on Netflix with a rotten tomato score of 84%.
Summer (Hulu)
If you can go through this trailer without getting emotional, you are much more resilient than me. In the summer, his father lives in New Mexico continues. New Mexico sees two daughters living in California with their mother over the summer. He suffers from addiction. All three struggle with relationships in the course of this four-part film, which uses Time Jump to show multiple stages of a family drama. It looks gorgeous and powerful, but keep a tissue box on hand.
Clean Slate (Prime Video)
This is another estranged father-daughter story, but this time the daughter in question has left as a son and is now back as a daughter. This actually looks pretty good, a lovely blend of humor and heart.
Newtopia (Prime Video)
Half Lub Story, Half Zombie Show and Newtopia certainly look like a new twist for both. Koreans know how to do really great zombie things, so this may be worth checking out.
Åre Murders – Season 1 (Netflix)
Nordic Noir is a popular crime subgenre and I’ve heard mixed up about this, but check if you enjoy cold cases (the type that occurs in cold environments, i.e. not the actual cold cases). It’s worth it.
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil’s Dinosaur – Season 2 (Disney+)
For kids, Marvel Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaurs should be fun and radical this weekend. For the children and children of the heart, that is. In fact, it reviews better than most adult MCU TVs.
Wolfman (VOD)
If you missed the Wolf Man in the cinema, you can now rent or buy the movie from Prime Video and more. This werewolf horror film didn’t do much with critics, but if you’re looking for something scary on a cold winter evening, you could get worse.
September 5th (VOD)
This time, we will be talking about the hostage crisis at the 1972 Munich Olympics from the perspective of an American sports broadcasting crew. With a 92% critical score and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, this is definitely a film that anyone interested in modern history should check out.
Bonus: Wire (HBO/MAX)
Why am I so late with so many new TV shows now? The answer is simple: the wire lured me! I watched season 1 in 2005 or 2006 when I was just a kid and really was 24 or 25 years old. That was when I was watching the soprano and other great HBO shows. Then we had our first child. Sticking to persuasive TV dramas has become extremely difficult due to work, parenting time and lack of sleep. So I’ve never seen wires from any other seasons! It’s been 20 years since I recently watched Season 1, so I re-watched Season 1, and this time I liked it even more. Now I’ve started season three, beating my path throughout season two. That’s amazing! If the story of organized crime, corrupt officials, police are dragged into the whims of petty bureaucrats and politicians, and the great characters, both police and criminals, enjoying the great cast of things, shoot it.
What is the streaming weekly?
There are currently many TV shows airing weekly, but the only TV show I’ve covered in my summary/review is now retired. Let’s start from there!
Resignation – Season 2 is everything I’ve been hoping to be like that so far. The latest episode of the retirement is one of the best episodes of the entire series, and Season 2 continues to be Wild Ride. If you don’t have an Apple TV and haven’t seen it, there are plenty of great shows that are cheaper compared to most other streaming services. If you haven’t seen it because you heard it’s about the office or it’s “boring”, then stop it and listen to me the wrong person. This is an amazing series. (Apple TV)
Prime Target continues to air new episodes on Apple. This spice thriller follows a prime-obsessed mathematics genius on his way down a winding, no-return, ter-two path. I haven’t started doing that yet, as I caught up with the first season of Lioness and then started rewatching Wire. But I’ll check it out soon. The new episodes will drop on Wednesday. (apple)
The pits are really great, but I decide not to watch it every week and instead lets me accumulate a few episodes and bang them all at once. The medical drama follows a vast cast of characters from Pittsburgh’s emergency room department, and can cleverly weave all these stories. Read my review here. (Max)
Traitor – Season 3 is the most popular reality TV competition show at the moment and I’ve heard something great, but I’m not a fan of reality TV shows, so I’m not watching it yeah. But I might have to break my rules, but only to see what all the fuss is. (peacock)
Dexter: Original Sin is a show I look forward to most of every week (though I’ve already seen the entire second season of retirement). It’s fun and fun with a great cast that plays younger versions of the characters from the original show. We are on wires too, and there are two more episodes. I don’t want to finish it, but I’m eager to know what will happen. This is my review. (Paramount)
Paradise is another show I started and I’m behind. I enjoyed a twisted and fascinating political thriller that is actually a sci-fi show about a big, tragic event. But after one episode, I’m back on the wire so I can’t really tell you how it’s going. (hulu)
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is another fun thing for the whole family. This is a very vintage animation, one of the most popular superheroes of all time. Three episodes drop every week. (Disney+)
There are so many things out next week/weekend, so I felt this weekend was a bit late, but get ready for an overload right away. It reminds me, I have a screener to watch shows like Reacher, Yellow Jacket, and if I’m lucky it’s a white lotus. A fun time!
