Apple is making all shows and movies on its subscription service Apple TV+ free this weekend, through Sunday, January 5th. This is a move the company has never made before, but the timing is perfect given the breadth and quality of the content. That range adds up to a lot more than a weekend of fancy TV.
The timing is also smart as one of the service’s biggest hits, Severance, is about to launch its second series.
How to watch Apple TV+ Free Weekend
There are many ways to watch Apple TV+ content. If you have an Apple TV box connected to your TV, it will be the best experience. The interface is designed to make watching Apple TV+ shows easy, and the remote control for the latest Apple TV models is very easy to use. Just sign in with your Apple account.
If you don’t have that hardware, you can still watch on any TV that has access to the Apple TV app. This includes screens from Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, and TCL. Again, sign in with your Apple account and everything will work.
The Apple TV app is also available on Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, gaming consoles, and more.
Of course, you can also watch on devices other than TV. The Apple TV app is available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad (but not the Apple Watch, but that’s ridiculous). You can stream shows there or visit www.tv.apple.com.
Free Weekend on Apple TV+: What to Watch
One of the first Apple TV+ shows, Ted Lasso remains the most successful. This comedy about Ted Lasso’s awkward transition to a failing English soccer team is hilarious, moving, and heartwarming. You have to go around three seasons.
Severance has also been a huge hit, and the timing of this offer signals Apple’s hope: binge-watch the first season, then sign up to watch the second series starting January 17th. That’s what it is.
For me, the best of them all is Slow Horses. It’s a great spy thriller with dark and comical elements, and it’s surprisingly good. The story of wayward failed spies who are banished from MI5 to the nefarious Slough House. The team’s leader is Jackson Lamb, a hard-drinking, greasy-haired man who can’t stop farting. The cast is uniformly great, especially Gary Oldman and the wonderful Saskia Reeves. It’s dangerous, so please don’t miss it.
Don’t miss Bad Sisters, a dark comedy about five Irish sisters.
From George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s Wolfs to the seasonal musical Spirited, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and the recent Fly Me to the Moon. We have all the movies up to and including “.
Don’t miss On the Rocks, a low-key comedy starring Bill Murray.
Honestly, there’s just too much going on in just one weekend. Of course Apple expects that. Note that you can also get three months of free Apple TV+ with certain new purchases, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV boxes.
I’m enjoying watching it.
