Trump was recognized in 2016 and the announcement was made Thursday. Last year, the 2023 title went to pop icon Taylor Swift.

Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs explained exactly why Trump topped the charts: “He ushered in a resurgence of historic proportions, propelled a once-in-a-generation political realignment, and… “For reshaping the American presidency and changing America’s role in the world,” Donald Trump is Time magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year. ”

Harris, who would have been the first black president, was among five finalists for Time magazine’s award.
