With everything major about the Harry Potter TV series coming online, we’re all excited about the speed at which the show is moving forward. It was just a few days ago that Francesca Gardiner took center stage at Max’s presentation and revealed a lot about the show. Since then, many actors’ names have been mentioned in connection with playing Hogwarts characters. While there were reports about Hagrid and Snape, we’re now hearing rumors about Professor McGonagall and that the showrunners have finally found an actor to carry on the legacy of the late BoJack Horseman actor Maggie Smith.
Will Sharon Horgan play Professor McGonagall?
According to a new report from Screenrant, the creators of the Harry Potter TV series have found Sharon Horgan, known for her excellent work on BoJack Horseman, to play Professor McGonagall. The actor will further carry Maggie Smith’s legacy forward. But no one can replace Maggie as the iconic Professor McGonagall.
Many on the internet are questioning the casting following Francesca Gardiner’s standard comments. However, this makes sense since Sharon is 54 and Maggie Smith was 10 years older when she played McGonagall in The Philosopher’s Stone. This means Sharon could play a younger version, especially considering her extended lifespan in the magical world.
Will Brett Goldstein play Hagrid?
Mark Mylod confirmed that the cast will match the ages of the characters in the book. However, according to a report from Comic Book Movie, Brett Goldstein, known for his roles in Ted Lasso and Thor: Love and Thunder, is vying for the role of Hagrid. Yes, that’s right. Brett may be confirmed to play the role.
Mark Mylod said of the casting, “No one can replace Alan Rickman, but we can find the next Alan Rickman.” Alan Rickman passed away in 2016. Buzz suggests that Papa Essiedu is a candidate to play the younger Snape in the series. Gardiner also teased fans to expect unexplored areas of Hogwarts.
