Peter Safran and James Gunn’s revamped vision for DC is set to launch in the new year, and the fanbase is buzzing with excitement like never before, eagerly anticipating what will happen to their favorite superheroes. . One of the key pieces of the reborn DCU is the TV series The Lantern. That’s why series based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern are given high priority. The main cast and many of the characters they’ll be playing have been announced in recent months, and with filming set to begin soon, it looks like the stage is set well for the actors to get into action.

According to Production Bulletin, Lanterns is scheduled to begin filming on February 10, 2025. This date aligns with previously speculated early 2025, indicating that this project is indeed being prioritized over others. The first season of the series will include eight episodes and filming is expected to last several months from February 10 to July 1, 2025. If everything goes according to plan and there are no unforeseen events, it is expected to air on HBO in late 2025. While that may be a possibility for series, post-production VFX for most “super” shows could push the release date to 2026. However, fans are still looking forward to the return seasons of other DC dramas such as Peacemaker and The Sandman. The Lantern was filmed entirely in Los Angeles, California, making it the first DC series from the revamped DC Universe to be filmed in the City of Angels.

The Lanterns is an adaptation of the Green Lantern comics centered around two intergalactic detectives, John Stewart and Hal Jordan, starring Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) and Kyle Chandler (Friday), respectively. Night Lights). The detective duo stumble upon a mysterious murder, and their investigation draws them deeper into a larger conspiracy. Gunn previously teased the series as “a terrestrial TV show similar to True Detective, with a few Green Lantern space detectives monitoring Earth.” Along the way, they discover a horrifying mystery that ties into the larger story of the DCU. ” When announcing the show in early 2024, Gunn and Safran released the following statement:

“We’re thrilled to be bringing this seminal DC title to HBO under the direction of Chris, Damon and Tom. Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan are some of DC’s most compelling characters. The Lantern brings them to life in an original detective story and is a foundational part of the unified DCU that begins next summer with Superman.”

Lanterns has assembled the best talent to bring the story to life. In addition to Pierre and Chandler, the series also stars Poorna Jagannathan (Onyx Collective’s Deli Boys), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), and Garret Dillahunt (Deadwood). The series is directed by Chris Mundy (Ozark) and co-produced by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Tom King (Mister Miracle).

Filming for Lanterns will begin on February 10, 2025. Stay tuned for further updates.
