One of DC Comics’ cult hits returns this spring in Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma, a six-issue prestige-format miniseries written by Ram V of Detective Comics.
In this series, V reunites with his Grafity’s Wall collaborator, artist Anand RK (Batman: Urban Legends’ “Wight Witch” story and some seriously cool covers). And “Resurrection Man” is truly a metaphysical, bordering on fantasy work. SF in the alley of V.
Created in 1997 by writing duo Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning and artist Jackson “Butch” Geis, Mitch Shelley is an amnesiac man who realizes he cannot stay dead. Every time he comes back from the dead, he loses all the superpowers he had inside him. End your past life and gain a new one. Despite his nickname “Resurrection Man,” Mitch was never a superhero. He was more of a man wandering around trying to unravel his mysterious past, helping those in need he met and avoiding dangerous immortal forces interested in him.
Abnett, Lanning, and Geis’ original Resurrection Man ran for 27 issues before returning in 2011 for the short-lived New 52 series. In this new series, “After living his last life and dying, Sherry awakens with a new purpose: to save the universe with his latest powers,” according to a DC news release. “This version of Resurrection Man must fight across time and space against a sadistic World War II concentration camp captain who has inherited a distorted version of Shelley’s abilities. The lines of cosmic order are blurred. In the beginning, Mitch Shelley is literally going to die over and over again to save the universe.”
“This is the story I’ve wanted to tell since I first started writing for DC,” V said in a news release. “It stayed with me and stuck with me, and my love and excitement for the characters and the story only grew. For me, part of the joy of writing comics is reinventing the characters in a way that speaks to my own interests and joys, and It can be re-imagined. In “Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma,” I invite readers to share in my excitement as Anand (colorist Mike Spicer) and (letterer Aditya Vidhikar) share my story of a never-ending life and the salvation of the universe. , and I hope to tell the story of falling in love as a story that spans the entire world.
Butch also draws one internal “synopsis” page (shown at bottom right) for each issue, summarizing the history of Mitch Shelley.
The first issue of Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma will be released on April 2nd and will be available for pre-order starting January 17th. You can check out the main cover (top left) by Jeff Dékal and the alternate covers (clockwise from top). Right) Anand RK, Jackson Butch, Dan Panosian.
