David Hill, the architect of the launch of Fox Sports and architect of many of his game-changing pieces, was tapped to receive lifetime achievement honors at the upcoming 46th Sports Emmy Awards. The news was announced by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Thursday to manage Sports Emmy.
Hill won the award at this year’s Sports Emmy Awards and will be held in New York City on Tuesday, May 20th.
“Many David’s contributions to sports broadcasting will have an impact on the existence of sports and will be seen forever around the world,” Natas President/CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement. “His innovation, including the ‘Foxbox’ score bug concept, changed the way viewers watch the game. He essentially introduced augmented reality to television screens decades before that phase was created. As an executive, he broadened his horizons for sports media and opened the door to a new generation of television leaders. ”
Hill was an Emmy Award winner as a sports producer and executive, and also served as chairman of Fox Network. His executive producer credits include the Super Bowl, Oscars and more.
“It’s completely blown away – because it’s from my peers,” Hill said in a statement.
Hill oversaw the launch of Fox Sports and served as the first president after the network signed an NFL contract in 1993. The Fox report premiered just eight months later. Among his initiatives are first down markers on the football field, as well as constant scores and clock graphics (known as the “Foxbox”).
Hill also helped launch Fox Sports Net, FoxSports.com, Big Ten Network, FoxSports 1 and more.
Hill was awarded the Petrozel Radio/Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame by the Sports Video Group in 2014. New York Festival TV & Film Awards in 2012 and 2016.
