A new Lion King spin-off movie is reportedly in the works at Disney.
Insider Daniel Lichtman says in a new post on Patreon that it has been confirmed that another “live-action” Lion King spinoff film is in development. However, it is still unclear whether the adventures of Simba or Mufasa will be depicted.

According to reports, Disney is also considering making a spin-off of Timon and Pumbaa. We can expect an update from Disney in the near future.
In an interview with Dexerto, Billy Eichner, who voices Timon in the film, said that he and Seth Rogen, who voice Pumbaa, are “ready” for a Timon and Pumbaa spinoff. Eichner also talked about what the story of such a project would be.

Eichner said, “Everyone’s asking about it. Seth and I, we’re ready. We need people to be buzzing about the Timon and Pumbaa movie.” Eichner said, “We’re all asking about that all the time. “I think it’s very, very important that we talk about it,” he added.
Eichner continued, “I think something like a road trip movie would be fun, where they go on adventures, meet new characters, and maybe interact with classic characters. It’s really fun. It’s a colorful comedy.
The Lion King live-action film series is a $2 billion series. The first film, released in 2019 and directed by Jon Favreau, grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide during its theatrical run. In 2024, a prequel and sequel to The Lion King titled Mufasa: The Lion King was released. The film is currently in theaters and has grossed $540 million.
The details of the plot of “Mufasa: The Lion King” are as follows.
Mufasa: “The Lion King” asks Rafiki to tell the legend of Mufasa to Kiara, a young lion cub who is the daughter of Simba and Nala, and Timon and Pumbaa also tell it in their own way. Told in flashback, the story begins with Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, an heir to his royal bloodline. A chance encounter begins an expansive journey for a group of unusual misfits in search of their destiny. Their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a menacing and deadly enemy.
Mufasa: The digital release date for “The Lion King” has been decided. The film is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in February 2025.
