But Musk appears to be getting much of his information about Germany from X, which critics say is starting to resemble a far-right echo chamber. For example, Musk reposted a video of Naomi Seibt, a right-wing influencer known for her closeness to the AfD and her denial of man-made climate change, and German media criticized her for referring to Sweden’s climate. Musk has appeared to have struggled to understand German politics in the past.
“Why are there so many negative reactions from some people about AfD?” Musk wrote on his X platform in June. “They keep calling themselves ‘far-right,’ but the AfD’s policies from what I’ve read don’t seem extremist. Maybe they’re missing something.”
Since then, Musk has supported the AfD, which Germany’s federal domestic intelligence agency continues to monitor as a suspected extremist organization.
