YouTube TV confirms temporary access to the Paramount channel
The agreement was announced late Thursday, so as noted in the Forbes report, Paramount channels such as CBS, CBS Sports, MTV, Nickelodeon can continue to stream without any confusion.
Additionally, the streaming service has assured users that recorded content remains available in the library.
The announcement follows a prior warning from YouTube TV issued on Wednesday, saying that all top-level content could be unavailable by Thursday if the transaction is not reached.
The potential blackout would have affected 23 Paramount-owned networks, along with CBS affiliates in major cities such as New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
How long will the short-term contract last?
YouTube TV has confirmed that its most important content remains available, but the company has not disclosed the period for the temporary transaction. When social media platform subscriber X asked if the agreement would last until the Madness Basketball Tournament in March, YouTube TV said that more updates will be offered as negotiations progress.
The streaming service said it values Paramount’s cooperation in working towards solutions, but has not indicated whether an agreement will be reached before the short-term contract expires.
Paramount blames YouTube TV for unfair negotiations
The dispute between YouTube TV and Paramount focuses on terms of contract, with the two companies publicly addressing differences.
Paramount claims that YouTube TV is putting pressure on conditions that are unfavourable to the company, prioritizing its own interests over a fair agreement.
The company said it had offered multiple proposals, including a comprehensive deal, but YouTube TV said it was steadfast and still negotiated.
As a contingency plan, YouTube TV previously announced that users will be eligible for $8 per month if Paramount’s channels are no longer available for long periods of time.

YouTube TV’s growing subscriber base and past conflicts
With over 8 million subscribers, YouTube TV is the largest internet-based pay-TV service in the United States, outperforming its competitors such as DirectV Stream and Fubo.
However, the platform has faced multiple disputes with content providers in recent years.
In December 2021, disagreements over the contract with Disney caused a temporary blackout on channels such as ABC, ESPN and National Geographic, which continued three days ago before an agreement was reached.
Similarly, in October 2021, YouTube TV almost lost access to NBCuniversal’s channels, including NBC Sports and the USA Network, before securing last-minute deals.
The uncertain future of Paramount content on YouTube TV
YouTube TV subscribers can continue to watch CBS, MTV and other Paramount channels for now, but the long-term availability of these networks remains uncertain.
If a new distribution agreement is not finalized soon, users may face the risk of a power outage again.
