The results of the pink-ball Test held in Adelaide on Sunday, December 8 saw a change in the World Test Championship standings as India slipped to third place. Meanwhile, New Zealand suffered a crushing defeat to England in Wellington and were completely eliminated from the race for a place in the finals.

India lost the day-night Test to Australia by 10 wickets, with the hosts outperforming India in all categories. Travis Head’s 150 wicket haul from Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins meant the visitors were eliminated, with the series tied at 1-1 going into the Brisbane Test.

With this win, Australia moved back to first place with a points percentage of 60.71, although the loss in Perth dropped them to third place. India currently have a points ratio of 57.29 after the defeat and will not have any chances to play in the future. Rohit Sharma and his men need to win all their remaining matches and will be hoping for Sri Lanka to beat second-placed South Africa during the ongoing Gukuberha Test.

New Zealand fell to 6th place with a points average of 44.23 after losing against Wellington. England improved their scoring rate to 45.24.

The Brisbane Test between Australia and India will begin on December 14.
