New Delhi: Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is returning to the Octagon after three years. He is scheduled to face Rob Font at UFC Fight Night on Sunday, February 22nd at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Cruz won the bantamweight title in 2010 and successfully defended it six times in the UFC. He was on his own in the bantamweight division, but Cody Garbrandt ended Cruz’s winning streak and handed him his second career loss.
After his loss to Cody, Cruz suffered an injury and was sidelined for nearly three years. Cruz returned in 2020 and took a direct shot at the title against Henry Cejudo, but lost the match.
Cruz won two fights after his return and was back in contention for the title, but his dreams were cut short by Marlon Vera and he took a three-year hiatus from the Octagon.
Cruz may retire from martial arts after his last fight with Font at UFC Fight Night. Cruz’s career has been affected by injuries, and there’s a chance he’ll hang up the gloves after the Font fight.
Font is ranked No. 9 in the bantamweight division and is coming off a win over Kyler Phillips. He has lost four of his past six fights and will aim to get back on the winning streak from 2021 onwards.
