My 7th grade crush wore a heather gray merch sweatshirt with “Wicked” embroidered on the front almost every day at middle school in California. He told people that seeing it on Broadway with his family changed his life, and I soon decided to feel the same way.
I downloaded the soundtrack onto my pink iPod and memorized all the lyrics to this award-winning soundtrack. I pored over the book by Gregory Maguire that I requested for my 13th birthday. And I cornered my parents to take my family to New York for the first time to see a Broadway show.
A year and a change later, my pestering has been spoiled. I actually saw it and it changed my life. A glittering Oz Dust ballroom, an “other” girl finding unexpected love and understanding, and vocals that bounce off the atmosphere. I bought a heather gray hoodie and wore it almost every day of eighth grade to impress my crush, who I finally got to call my boyfriend for six weeks.
He’s now proud to be a gay man, just like I’m proud to be a bisexual woman, and it doesn’t matter. I continued to pursue a career centered around fashion, and he continued to pursue a career centered around performance. And our simple cotton parka symbolized the beginning of a powerful and irresistible connection to one of the greatest musicals of the 21st century. I evil Super fan.
With the arrival of evil After years of waiting, the children of the theater fraternity are finally being fed.
