The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Washington Commanders in Week 16, destroying their chance to win the NFC East. They didn’t waste their second chance to take home a district title.

In Week 17, the Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 41-7 to officially close out the NFC East. Philadelphia won despite Jalen Hurts being out with a concussion and backup quarterback Kenny Pickett leaving midway through the second half after taking a hard hit.

The Eagles’ victory originally clinched the NFC’s top two seeds, but the Minnesota Vikings’ 27-25 victory over the Green Bay Packers confirmed Philadelphia as the second seed. As a result, they will host the NFC’s No. 7 seed in the wild card round.

Who will the Eagles face in the postseason? Here’s what you need to know about Philadelphia’s potential first-round playoff matchup.

The Eagles had a chance to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a No. 7 seed before Sunday Night Football, but the Commanders’ win over the Atlanta Falcons moves the NFC South team into the wild-card race. It became certain that it would.

Eagles playoff scenario

Below is a look at how the Eagles might face each of their first-round opponents.

The Packers entered Week 17 as the No. 6 seed in the NFC, but fell to the No. 7 seed with a loss to the Vikings. As a result, they are considered the Eagles’ most likely first-round opponent.

The Packers will be locked into a wild-card round battle with the No. 7 seed and the Eagles depending on one of the Week 18 results below.

Commanders beat Cowboys. The Commanders will tie with the Cowboys in Week 18, while the Packers will tie with the Bears. Packers lose to Bears.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) estimates the Packers have about a 75% chance of being the No. 7 seed in the NFC heading into Week 18.

How can the Commanders be the 7th seed in the NFC? There are only two possible paths.

The Packers beat the Bears and the Commanders lose to the Cowboys. The Packers beat the Bears and the Commanders tied with the Cowboys.

The Commanders clinched a conference record tiebreaker with the Packers (Washington is 8-3 against the NFC, Green Bay is 6-5). If both teams are tied in the standings, the coach will maintain the advantage.

That’s why ESPN’s FPI estimates Washington has about a 25% chance of being the No. 7 seed in the NFC.
