Good To Know, a new educational video series that explains how nuclear science can help solve global problems, launches today on Discovery Channel as part of a new partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). I did.
The film will be broadcast in more than 30 countries, reaching 44 million households across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
Produced by the IAEA Video team in collaboration with the Warner Bros. Discovery editorial team, this first series of five short films explores the safe use of radiation to solve some of the world’s most pressing global challenges. I will explain the method in simple words. These include:
Microplastics in the ocean (Photographed in Monaco/World) Rising burden of cancer (Photographed in India) Food insecurity (Photographed in Austria/World) Water scarcity in the face of climate change (Photographed in Austria/Costa Rica) Industrial pollution (Photographed in India) Czech Republic)
The films, each approximately one minute long, will be shown on television and online as part of Discovery’s “Good To Know,” a new educational video series about the benefits of nuclear science and technology.
Upcoming films in the series will measure how coastal areas sequester carbon, how oceans become more acidic, and how pests increase, especially in light of climate change. We plan to continue investigating how nuclear science can help with development. Can be controlled without using chemicals. The films also focus in detail on the IAEA’s major programs to combat plastic pollution, drought and hunger.
These films are produced in collaboration with the IAEA’s 12 Institutes of Nuclear Science and Applications, a unique feature within the United Nations. These institutes develop and share nuclear technology with countries around the world. Watch a 3-minute film about the lab here.
IAEA Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi said: “People may know us as the nuclear watchdog that helps strengthen safety, security and safeguards in places like Fukushima, Iran and Ukraine. But nuclear science is making tangible changes in people’s lives, helping farmers grow better crops and cancer patients receive better treatment. As the dire effects of climate change become clearer to people around the world, there is hope. It is important that the public knows that, as always, science provides solutions to many of our major challenges.”
Najat Mokhtar, head of the IAEA’s Nuclear Science and Applications Division, agreed: Science is an essential force for the good of the world, and nuclear science offers so many amazing innovations that help countries achieve their development goals. ”
Jamie Cook, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Central Europe, Middle East and Turkey, said: Environmental sustainability agenda. We believe it is our duty to use our voices, storytelling strengths, and expertise to highlight and tell the right stories that positively impact our communities and audiences. I’m thinking. This is part of our social good strategy and we want to use media for good. ”
