Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park said he was “set up” to receive another Oscar nomination.
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was a finalist in the animated feature film category at this year’s Academy Awards.
Preston-born Park and his Bristol-based Aardman Animations team have already won four Oscars.
Park said the latest appointment came as a “surprise and a real privilege.”
“You never get used to it,” Park said.
“Even though we didn’t make this movie, it’s still incredible to be counted there.
“All artists love to be rewarded for their work in some way. It’s all about our amazing animators and all the talented people, the directors of photography, the music, everything that went into the film. This is a great reflection on.
“So many people are working so hard.”
His Bristol-based company still uses traditional stop-motion animation.
Objects must be painstakingly moved between every frame.
“We try to stick to the fact that it’s very important about clay models and stop-motion animation,” Park said.
“It’s a very old technique, but I think it brings a kind of humor and a kind of humanity to being able to get that expression on the face.
“With CGI you can do all sorts of amazing things, but it’s almost a limitation, so it’s worth sticking with (stop motion) because it helps create gags.”
Park previously won an Oscar for the Wallace and Gromit film Wrong Pants, Closely Shaved, and the short film Curse of Comfort with Rabbit.
He described Aardman Animation as an “amazing place” and a “privilege” as you are surrounded by this powerhouse of creativity.
The 2025 Academy Awards will be held on March 2nd in Los Angeles.
