Consumer Affairs Minister Prahad Joshi said Thursday that the Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Apple over alleged performance issues with iPhones after the iOS 18 software update.

“After investigating these complaints, the department has issued a notice to #Apple through CCPA seeking a response on this matter,” Joshi said in a post on X.
Responses required from Apple
The notice asked Apple to explain technical issues reported after an iPhone software update.
In particular, complaints related to performance issues have been received on the National Consumer Helpline, news agency PTI reported.
The notice came as the latest regulatory criticism of the tech giant’s operations in India, a key growth market for Apple for the smartphone maker.
The central government also warned some Apple users last year, citing two software vulnerabilities that could pose a “high risk of unauthorized access, data theft, or gaining control (by hackers) of affected systems.” had issued a warning.
According to an advisory issued by the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the high severity issue is said to affect Intel-based Mac systems, including macOS. iOS and iPadOS devices.
The center previously reported that Apple products, including the iPhone, had “multiple vulnerabilities” that could lead to identity theft and the disclosure of sensitive information from the device.
Additionally, Apple CEO Tim Cook last year pointed to India’s role in the iPhone’s global sales success.
But last week it was reported that global sales of Apple’s iPhones fell 5% in the final quarter of 2024 due to overwhelming upgrades and competitors moving into China.
iPhone market share also fell to 18% in 2024, largely due to Chinese rivals led by Xiaomi and Vivo taking over.
All of this sent Apple shares down as much as 3% to $229.72 on the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.
