EXCLUSIVE: Ulrich Thomsen (“The Blacklist” Counterpart) has been confirmed to reprise his role as DC supervillain Sinestro in the HBO, WBTV, and DC Studios series “The Lantern.”
The series follows two intergalactic cops, newly hired John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), as they investigate a murder in America’s heartland. , which depicts how people get caught up in the dark mysteries of Earth.
Sinestro is a former Green Lantern turned villain who is described as ruthless but undeniably charming. Sinestro’s manipulative nature drives his obsession with his former mentor, Hal Jordan. Sinestro was created by John Bloom and Gil Kane and first appeared in the 1961 comic book Green Lantern, Volume 2, #56.
Previously announced cast members also include Kelly MacDonald as Sheriff Kelly. Garret Dillahunt plays William Macon, a modern-day cowboy. and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, John’s potential love interest.
Lanterns is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The first two episodes will be directed by James Hawes. The series will be executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King and Hawes. Thomsen is best known for playing Kai Proctor in Cinemax’s Banshee series. The Danish actor recently starred in the critically acclaimed Scandinavian series Trom. He also recurred on NBC’s The Blacklist, Starz’s Counterpart, and HBO’s The Young Pope. Thomsen will next be seen in Uwe Boll’s thriller Running opposite Amanda Plummer.
