Trimble expands its collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to provide accurate positioning solutions for autonomous vehicles ranging from cars to heavy-duty trucks.

The partnership integrates Trimble’s ProPoint Go positioning engine and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2 to deliver positioning accuracy within 10cm.

The joint solution is expected to be available in vehicles by 2028, supporting Level 2+ and potentially higher levels of autonomous driving (AD) applications.

This, Trimble claims, enables high-precision positioning for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and cellular vehicle-to-vehicle communication (C-V2X) applications for automakers and Tier 1 suppliers.

Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2 allows customers to expand to Level 3 autonomous driving applications and C-V2X solutions using the same chipset.

Olivier Casabianca, vice president of positioning services at Trimble, said: “Qualcomm Technologies and Trimble’s continued success is proof that we are jointly innovating and delivering solutions that help enable higher levels of ADAS and C-V2X in the automotive and communications industries.

“We work together to ensure the highest standards of precision so that end customers can operate with confidence. Fully automated vehicles and trucking are still in the development stage, but meeting higher level requirements We are making great strides in providing technology.”

Trimble’s ProPoint Go positioning engine leverages globally accessible high-precision Trimble correction services and data from a variety of sensors to provide position and orientation data through GNSS signal fusion.

Provides centimeter-level position, speed, and time information essential for the safety and reliability of autonomous driving functions.

Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2 automotive connectivity platform includes features such as integrated C-V2X direct communications, non-terrestrial network (NTN) support, and high-precision multi-frequency global navigation satellite system (HP-GNSS). Equipped. , and RF front end (RFFE) functionality.

Jeff Arnold, vice president of product management for Qualcomm Technologies, said: “We are committed to providing driver-assistance technologies with a focus on enabling autonomous driving and building systems that accurately respond to their surroundings.” .

“Our continued collaboration with Trimble allows us to add even more reliable and accurate positioning to our technology stack, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining the highest levels of safety and system reliability. Masu.”
