Today’s Earthquake: Massive Trembling 3.8 Jorz Afghanistan

A Richter-scale magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck Afghanistan on Sunday, according to a statement from the National Center for Seismic Science (NCS).

According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km, making it more susceptible to aftershocks. “EQ M: 3.8, on: 08/06/2025 07:53:19 IST, LAT: 36.61 N, LONG: 71.36 E, depth: 10 km, Location: Afghanistan, afghanistan, “afghanistan, “afghanistan, “afghanistan, “

Such shallow earthquakes are more dangerous than deeper earthquakes because they emit a greater energy close to the Earth’s surface.

He will have more ground shaking, more damage to structures and casualties, and lose energy as he moves to the ground.

Earlier on Saturday, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook the area, the NCS said.

The NCS shared details of the X earthquake.

Afghanistan has a history of powerful earthquakes, and the Hindu Kush Mountains is a geologically active region where earthquakes occur every year, according to the Red Cross.

Afghanistan sits on numerous fault lines between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, and the fault lines also run directly through Herat.

Located on several active fault lines along the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, it becomes a seismically active region. These plates meet, collide, and frequently cause seismic activity.

According to the United Nations Humanitarian Agreement (UNOCHA) Coordination Agency, Afghanistan remains extremely vulnerable to natural disasters such as seasonal floods, landslides and earthquakes.

These frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan hurt vulnerable communities. This has already tackled decades of conflict and underdevelopment, leaving little resilience to deal with multiple simultaneous shocks.
