There’s more to the name than the “i”.

If you’ve ever wondered what the “i” in Apple products like the “iPhone” and “iPad” stands for, you’re not alone. For years, customers have been trying to guess what this letter stands for, but little did they know that the answer already existed.

In his 1998 speech announcing the iMac, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs revealed that the “i” stood for “Internet,” according to NPR and the Economic Times.

Experts say the “i” in “iPhone” and “iPad” actually stands for something. Reuters

At the time, during the “dot-com bubble,” the Internet was rapidly gaining popularity as more people logged on to the World Wide Web.

But Apple’s humble “i” means much more, according to tech experts.

“Steve Jobs said the ‘I’ stood for ‘Internet, personal, direction, information, (and) inspiration,'” Comparitech privacy advocate Paul Bischoff wrote in Reader’s Digest. told.

“He also implied that he was referring to ‘I’ as a personal pronoun and ‘instruction’ for educational purposes.”

But Bischoff added that the “i” technically had “no formal meaning,” leaving it open to interpretation.

This year, Apple released its latest generation smartphone, iPhone 16, and along with it, iOS 18. The latest update to this operating system includes AI-powered features, where the “i” stands for “intelligence.”

“He also implied that he was referring to ‘I’ as a personal pronoun and ‘instruction’ for educational purposes,” Bischoff added. AP

However, the Apple Intelligence integration has faced backlash from consumers who refuse to update to the latest iOS versions, a decision that could leave their data vulnerable to malicious attackers.

An old iOS bug allowed cybercriminals to access sensitive user data. However, an update has applied a patch that prevents hackers from exploiting the bug.

The company is also reportedly working on a foldable iPad, which is expected to be released to the public as early as 2028, and a foldable iPhone, which is not expected to hit the market until 2026. There is.
