DEADLINE reported that Joseph Chastar, a co -creator of Superman, had filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comic.
Litigation claims that the studio has no right to release a superman movie in a specific territory.
Shastar’s real estate executor, Mark Warren Peary, filed a lawsuit in the New York Federal Court early this week.
According to the deadline, the lawsuit demands damages and suspension orders to stop the WBD from distributing superman content in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia. It claims that Shaster’s foreign copyright for Superman has returned to his property many years ago.
According to publications, WBD’s spokesman responded to the lawsuit, saying, “We will fundamentally oppose the benefits of the lawsuit and violently defend the rights.”
The lawsuit explains under the Copyright Act in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia that the creator’s rights will automatically return to property 25 years after his death. Since Joseph Chastar died in 1992, his copyright in these countries has returned to his property in 2017 (and for Canada in 2021).
A new superman movie starring David Corenswet as a symbolic superhero will be released on July 11 this year. Rachel Brosnahan is also a Lois Lane, Nichelor Holt appears as Rex Luther, Maria Gabriela de Farria appears.
