Ashwini Vaishno’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting has revealed that India’s first “Indian-made” semiconductor chips will be launched by September or October 2025. The presentation was made at a press conference in Bengaluru. The national semiconductor industry.
The chip, developed in collaboration with Tata Electronics and PowerChip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), will be produced at India’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Dorera, Gujarat. The initiative was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2021 and approved a total of Rs 76,000. The programme aims to establish comprehensive semiconductors in India and showcase the manufacturing ecosystem.
Vaishno also announced that the government has granted Rs 334 to the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru for research and development of gallium nitride (GAN) technology. GANs are key components of semiconductors used in telecom and power supplies applications.
In addition to this, Vaishnaw has also announced the launch of the Indian AI Mission Portal. The portal is expected to be published within the next 7-8 days, providing a robust platform for stakeholders to demand computing power.
The Indian AI Mission aims to democratize access to high-performance computing resources, which offers approximately 14,000 graphics process units (GPUs) to support AI development. These GPUs are sourced from 10 finalists, including Yotta Data Services, E2E Network, TATA Communications, and AWS managed service providers.
The portal allows central ministries, state governments and other stakeholders to request subsidies capacity, significantly reducing the barriers to entry into AI research and development.
