New Delhi: Reports say that major events in Afghanistan forced a senior Taliban minister to flee the country. It is important to note that Taliban Deputy Minister Mohammad Abbas Stanikkai has always insisted on lifting the ban on education on girls in Afghanistan.

On January 20, Mohammad Abbas Stanikkai opposed the government’s ban on girls attending secondary schools and higher education at a graduation ceremony in a host state near the Afghan-Pakistan border. “There is no excuse for this, not now, not in the future,” the Guardian quoted as saying Stanikzai. “We’re unfair to 20 million people,” he added.

Mohammad Abbas Stanikkai said that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the door to knowledge was open to both men and women. “There were such amazing women, so if I were to elaborate on their contributions, it would take quite a bit of time,” cited Stanikzai as saying.

After his speech and reporting his criticism, Taliban supreme leader Hibatura Ahuntzada reportedly ordered the minister to arrest and imposed a travel ban. This caused Stanikzai to flee Afghanistan for the United Arab Emirates, the Guardian reported.

What did Stanikzai say?

While talking to local media, Stanikkai confirmed that he had traveled to Dubai, but he said it was purely health reasons.

To remember, since the Taliban acquisition in 2021, women and girls’ rights to education, work, travel and public appearance have been significantly limited.

Last month, the International Criminal Court’s Supreme Prosecutor asked for a warrant for the Taliban’s supreme leader and the Afghan Supreme Court judge, persecuting Afghan women and girls as crimes against humanity.
