Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has performed better than Mufasa: The Lion King in the domestic market. Looking at the series alone, the trilogy received better scores than Sonic the Hedgehog, the first film in the series. The 2020 film grossed $58 million during its opening weekend. However, the recently released film failed to surpass the earnings of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The 2022 film grossed $72.1 million in its first weekend.
It will be interesting to see how Paramount’s animated film performs in its second and third weeks. If it maintains its strong box office performance in the coming weeks, the film will easily collect more than $200 million in box office revenue across all screenings.
