The crazy week weather in New York Fashion Week, including snow, sleet and frigid temperatures has inspired endless outfits. Editors, stylists and buyers were challenged to find creative and stylish solutions to wear clothes for the elements. They embraced important winter textures, from suede and shearling to fake fur, to outerwear quilted to keep them warm. A lace trimmed dress and bootcut jeans have also made a comeback. See and shop for the best street style looks from New York Fashion Week.
1. Quilted topper and black wash jeans
Eva Chen, head of the fashion partnership on Instagram, knows one or two things about the dressing of the season. A few weeks of fashion week under her belt, she chose to play with the texture, wearing a quilted coat and denim, keeping the color palette all black. Try adding that it’s a bit sparkly like a gold chain belt, tightening around your waist, like Chen did. Cap the look with Chelsea boots and Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses.
2. Chocolate cardi and cream slip skirt
The fashion has fallen sharply into sweet shades such as chocolate brown, this year’s Pantone Color of the Year, and mocha mousse. These shades naturally combine with the cream. I love this midi skirt made of satin and silk. Wrap the sweater around your neck like a scarf (a trend we also discovered in Copenhagen). Add black leather opera gloves and baby suede bag for an elegant touch. This fake version of JW PEI is a steal for under $100.
3. Suede outerwear and deep red trousers
Speaking of suede, it’s a breakout texture for the season and is still strong. Pair bright crimson pants and suede jacket for unexpected textured meat colour pairing. Store accessories on a practical side so that they don’t compete. Add warm, wide mohair scarf and crossbody bag to keep you hands free.
4. Vintage style lingerie dress and faux fur coat
We recorded a revival of the Phoebe Filo Ella Race trend. Here you can see its elegant charm. Style it with a faux fur coat, silver jewelry and a studded bag.
5. Long brown shirring coat and bootcut jeans
For a retro vibe, take pages from Kendrick Lamar’s book and embrace Bootcut Jeans. Style it with a long brown shearling coat and smooth accessories, like East and West bags and oval sunglasses.
6. Extra large moto and pleated trousers
It’s not a classic moto jacket that’s sure to be a hit. It’s a timeless classic. I love the oversized silhouette you can see here worn in a cozy black turtleneck and your favorite work pants. Row’s Igor Pleated Pants is a purchase worthy of an investment you’ll rely on over and over.
7. Trimmed faux shear ring and old denim pairing
The Canadian tuxedo is a symbolic look for good reason. It always works. Style it with a faux shire ring jacket and a large brown tote.
