In a tweet for X.com, OpenAI CEO and founder Sam Altman listed what people most want from the company in 2025. This makes for very interesting reading, but it’s not all about ChatGPT.
Answering the question “What do you want OpenAI to build/fix in 2025?” Altman identified a list of common themes. Honestly, this is a great wishlist to get started with OpenAI. The themes are: AGI agents, much better 4o upgrades, much better memory, longer contexts, “adult mode”, deeper research capabilities, better Sora, and more personalization.

A.G.I.
First on Altman’s list is AGI. AGI stands for Artificial General Intelligence, the next level of artificial intelligence that produces intelligence that is as smart as or smarter than humans. Some believe this carries as many risks as opportunities.
I don’t think AGI will be available in 2025, even though it’s at the top of my wish list. When I interviewed Dr. Ben Goertzel, one of the people who coined the term AGI, last year, he said he thought 2029 was a more realistic date, but that doesn’t mean companies like OpenAI are moving toward AGI. That’s not to say we won’t make great progress. 2025.
agent
Second on Armand’s list are agents. These are automated AI bots that perform tasks on your behalf and act like true personal assistants, able to reschedule missed appointments or order food you’re missing. Masu.
We were hoping that OpenAI would release the long-awaited Operator Agent as part of “12 Days of OpenAI,” but we were disappointed. Operator Agent was scheduled to be released in January, so we expect OpenAI to release something in the near future.
ChatGPT improvements
Most wishlists mention ChatGPT, specifically longer contexts, more personalization, “adult mode,” a much better 4o upgrade, deeper research features, and much better memory. I’m guessing there are.
We know that the rate of improvement of large-scale language models slows down significantly as they evolve. So people’s daily experience with ChatGPT is not as different between the 4o model and the new o1 model as it was between the old ChatGPT 3 and the new o1 model. ChatGPT 4 model. What’s interesting is that most of the requested changes aren’t about the ability to answer deep math questions or generate better code, but rather about improving the memory of the person you’re talking to or creating more personalized code. It is important to note that it is about simpler things such as user experience.
You can’t help but say it’s superficial, but I love things like this too. It’s not immediately clear what “adult mode” means, but it will likely involve removing some of the guardrails under which ChatGPT currently operates. Personally, I think they’re there for a good reason, so I’m not sure how I feel about that.
better sora
Sora was released as part of the “12 Days of OpenAI” event and received a lot of praise. Sora is undoubtedly one of the best AI video generators, but its long development process (announced in February 2024) has allowed others to catch up.
It may seem ungrateful to demand a “better Sora” so soon after launch, but rivals like Pika have already done what they can’t and are stealing that thunder. I want a more practical Sora. Tell us a little more about why you want to create AI videos. We’re not all aspiring filmmakers, and some of us just want to use AI to make our lives easier.
What would you like to see?
I don’t think the world is completely ready for AGI yet, even if it were technically possible. Of all the things on my wishlist, improving ChatGPT is at the top of my list. It’s a particularly good memory that Google has spent a lot of time developing for ChatGPT’s rival Gemini, which also has deep research features.
Altman ended his tweet with the cryptic words, “Interestingly, there’s been little or no mention of the many great updates we have coming up!”
Maybe he’s just trying to keep us on alert about what year 2025 will be, but it’s certainly interesting to wonder what OpenAI will come up with that isn’t on your wishlist. whets my appetite for 2025.
