MILAN — The late Rosita Missoni arrived at Milan’s Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio on Tuesday in a coffin as unique as the designer herself, reflecting her personality and passion. The casket was colorful and decorated with personal notes, hearts and flowers from the family. Decorated with tiny, playful clusters of red and white mushrooms, it’s reminiscent of days in the woods searching for fungi to season the best risotto.
“It’s like a mandala. We finished it in five days,” Rosita’s granddaughter Margherita Maccapani Missoni said after the funeral, referring to the coffin in the courtyard outside the church. Minutes earlier, her voice cracking, she spoke about Rosita, who died on January 1 at the age of 93, praising her strength and guidance. “She didn’t know the meaning of self-pity, and I was her ardent disciple. I always try to stay true to her teachings.”

“I tried to write down my thoughts, but all I wanted to say was what I wanted to say,” said Margherita’s mother, Angela. “About what she left behind, not just for me but for women, and how her vision changed so many things in the world.”
She describes her mother, Rosita, as “a very kind and loving person. The way she raised me and the space she gave me allowed me to be independent and self-sufficient. I was so proud of her and I am so grateful for everything she did for me and my family.”
Michelangelo Missoni, grandson of Rosita’s father Luca, also spoke of Rosita being an “artist, visionary and entrepreneur” as well as her “maternal presence”. He remembered her sensitivity and wise advice. On a walk looking for mushrooms, Rosita says, “I always found three or four four-leaf clovers, but I never found one.” I asked her how that happened. When I asked her if she was, she replied, “You have to find luck in life, it’s not given to you.” She taught me to love and respect nature and told me to leave boletus (mushrooms) for the snails. For her, the world of mushrooms was magical and mystical. ”
The church was full. Rosita’s character, values, dedication to her profession and close-knit family, and her strength in the face of adversity, including the loss of her son Vittorio in a plane crash in 2013, were reflected in Minister Giulio’s words. Della Vite. He also officiated at the funeral of designer husband Ty Missoni in May 2013, with Carlo Fassendini, Abbot of the Abbey of Sant’Ambrogio, at his side.

I remember Taka.”
Carla Sozzani, founder of 10 Corso Como, with her daughter Sara Maino by her side, said that she met Rosita between the late 1960s and early 1970s, “when Missoni was starting to achieve great success.” spoke. From the beginning, I was struck by her natural warmth, instinctively endearing personality, and lively curiosity that makes her unique. She was a wonderful woman who could treat anyone with a sincere smile and had a presence that exuded authenticity. Even now, the memories of that light and kindness are vivid and indelible, and I want to always carry them with me. ”

“As a journalist, I found myself frequently dispatched to the Missoni family estate in Smilago, where Rosita, as queen, ruled the kitchen, the vegetable garden, and the conversation at the family table with an iron fist and a wonderful smile. “JJ Martin said. , the Los Angeles-born editor turned entrepreneur and founder of La DoubleJ, attended with her business partner Andrea Ciccoli. “She taught me how to make risibishi (using fresh peas from her orto (vegetable garden), of course) on the stove. When La She also bought her first vintage piece at DoubleJ, and of course, she bought the wildest, quirkiest outfit in the collection, complete with her colorful, graffitied and embellished outfits for today’s ceremony. I think the coffin perfectly reflected the way she used joy and color as a deeply moving sin. She truly embodies the very best of what it means to be Italian.”
