President Donald Trump on Monday rescinded a 2023 executive order signed by Joe Biden that seeks to reduce the risks that artificial intelligence poses to consumers, workers and national security.
Biden’s order requires developers of AI systems that pose a risk to the U.S. national security, economy, public health, or safety to communicate with the U.S. government under the Defense Production Act before releasing safety test results to the public. Mandated to share.

The order also directed agencies to set standards for their testing and address related chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and cybersecurity risks. Biden’s order comes as U.S. lawmakers have failed to pass legislation that would put guardrails on AI development.
The 2024 Republican Party Platform pledges to repeal the mandate, saying it stifles AI innovation, adding, “The Republican Party supports the development of AI that is rooted in free speech and human flourishing.”
Generative AI, which can create text, photos, and videos in response to free-form prompts, has sparked excitement as well as concerns that it could make some jobs obsolete or have other negative effects.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Commerce imposed new restrictions on exports of AI chips and technology, sparking criticism from the industry, including companies like NVIDIA.
Biden last week issued another executive order providing federal support to address the massive energy needs of rapidly growing advanced AI data centers, calling for the Departments of Defense and Energy to lease federal land owned by them. Ta. President Trump did not repeal that order.
