US President-elect Donald Trump recently appointed Chennai-born Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as senior policy advisor for AI in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, who is known for his close relationship with tech billionaire Elon Musk, recently tweeted on It’s all going to be huge,” he shared a post.
When a user asked if removing the country cap would backfire, Krishnan replied: “We want the best, no matter where you’re born (another weird quirk). “The country cap represents the place of birth, not the nationality.”, he explained the logic.
Removal of country cap could be good news for Indians
David Sachs, who was appointed by President Trump as the “White House AI and Crypto Czar,” further clarified Krishnan’s proposal to eliminate country caps. Toward X, he shared the following post.
“Key point of explanation: Sriram did not say he wanted to eliminate all green card caps. He said he wanted to eliminate the ‘country’ cap on green cards. Currently, every country in the world is allocated the same number of green cards, regardless of the number of eligible applicants. ”
He added: “Applicants from India will have to wait for 11 years, while applicants from many other countries will not have to wait at all.”
“Sriram still supports skills-based criteria for receiving a green card, rather than making the program open-ended. In fact, he wants the program to be entirely merit-based. Support for highly skilled immigrants remains a right-wing opinion. Sriram is by no means a “career leftist”! ” he said.
Elon Musk agrees with Perplexity AI CEO
Perplexity AI CEO Arvind Srinivas emphasized the focus on skilled individuals rather than equal national representatives, commenting on Sachs’ post: DOGE on immigration does not mean increasing immigration or removing caps. Rather, it means recruiting talent based on skills, rather than looking to see if each country is equally important. ”
Notably, Elon Musk responded to Srinivas’ post with a 💯, indicating his complete agreement.
