It looks like OpenAI is preparing some important releases for ChatGPT. In addition to the previously announced O3-mini model, the possible release of the Operator, which was rumored last year, also appears to be on the horizon. One potentially interesting feature related to Operators is called Tasks. The task, which was first discovered during “12 Days of OpenAI,” appears to have been further updated. This feature allows users to schedule tasks, set execution times, run them, list them, and track their status.
OpenAI is reportedly working on features similar to Deep Research, which was introduced at Gemini last year. This feature, codenamed Caterpillar, will be integrated with tasks, allowing ChatGPT to perform actions such as:
Search for specific informationThink about your problemSummary of dataOpen a websiteAccess documents
Notifications alert users when these tasks are completed, and desktop notifications are also an option for browser users. However, there may be a limit to the number of tasks that can run simultaneously, but the details of this limit are not yet clear.
Custom orders will also receive a minor update, with more granular options. Users will see style suggestions to customize ChatGPT’s behavior in new ways, and may even have added flexibility in how they adjust instructions.
Other recent updates focus on canvas rendering improvements for Python, React, and HTML. The recent issues with React rendering appear to have been fixed now. Additionally, the React rendering feature appears to be ready for release and works smoothly and reliably.
Improving memory functionality is also an area of development. OpenAI may soon allow ChatGPT to use memory for search queries, making the search experience even more personalized. Additionally, enhancements to its general memory system could allow ChatGPT to remember more about its users, including their preferences and past interactions.
Many of these updates are likely to be rolled out as early as January, so there’s a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. stay tuned!
