The big question this postseason is whether Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs can become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Despite having the same 15-2 record as the Lions, they have questions to answer. Detroit dominated by +222 points, while the Chiefs won by just +59 points.
Most of the top starters last played on Christmas Day, meaning they will have three weeks off by the time they are eliminated in the second round. Will they rest well or will they make a rusty sound?
But they entered the 2020 Super Bowl with a similar plan, and with no style points, all they have to do is win, whether it’s winning a one-score game or winning on the last play.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid knows exactly what he’s doing, winning 26 games, the second-most in playoff history.
Mahomes has reached the Super Bowl four times in six seasons as a starter, winning at least a conference championship each year. He has won as many Super Bowl rings as he has lost in the playoffs (three), and his 15 wins in the playoffs are second only to Joe Montana (16) and Tom Brady (35).
Mahomes may also have a bruised shoulder after being ignored in the Pro Bowl voting, but that’s the last thing the rest of the field needs.
The Chiefs have used every trick in the book to get the job done, until someone other than Tom Brady or Joe Burrow goes to Arrowhead Stadium and proves they can beat them. They remain a team that everyone should fear.
