Netflix is starting 2025 strong next week with highly anticipated releases scheduled for the first week of the year. This is a collection of new titles that offers something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of gripping documentaries or shocking drama. Or even professional wrestling!
In fact, let’s start with the latter. WWE Raw comes to Netflix on January 6th. The streaming giant is the exclusive home of WWE’s flagship weekly professional wrestling programming in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Latin America (more countries and territories to be added). . The premiere episode, which begins at 8 p.m. ET, will feature some of WWE’s biggest names, including John Cena and “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.
According to the streamer, “The partnership between WWE and Netflix marks a new era for WWE fans with the long-awaited debut of weekly live programming that will air 52 weeks a year.”
What else is coming to Netflix next week? Both fictional and real-life dramas. The latter includes Jerry Springer: Fight, Camera, Action, which opens on January 7th. And this is, of course, a self-explanatory Netflix release. I wrote about this documentary in detail here, but the bottom line is that, as everyone knows, the late Jerry Springer is known for hosting literally the dumbest talk show of all time.
Over 27 seasons and nearly 4,000 rambling episodes, his show offered up tabloid-style trash featuring the worst kinds of people, with an endless list of disastrous guests. Directed by Luke Sewell, who previously directed Netflix’s Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King, the streaming giant said the title includes “first-hand accounts and revelations from people involved with the show” and It says it will include an interview with Netflix. Guests and producers talk about the “destruction” caused by the show.
Now, with all that out of the way, we can turn our attention to what is arguably the crown jewel of next week’s Netflix lineup: American Primeval. This is a dark, character-driven drama set in the unforgiving world of the American frontier.
The Peter Berg-directed show, which opens on January 9, is a snapshot of what life was like in the harsh American West in 1857. Starring Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin, the show examines the violent clashes of cultures, communities, and religions during the country’s formative years, when men and women were still fighting and dying for control of the land. are. Netflix explains, “This ensemble tells the story of the sacrifices everyone must make when they choose to enter a lawless and brutal frontier.” And I’m going to call you now.
You can read more about this show in our previous article here. I also intend to act decisively. The trailer alone strongly hints that the first must-see Netflix drama of 2025 is here.
