The assembly on Saturday said its members had absolute freedom of speech to express their views, but the party’s views were of paramount importance.

“The Indian National Congress is the only political party in our country with freedom of speech and post-speech,” Parliament’s communications chief, Jairam Ramesh, said on social media platform X.

“Members are sometimes themselves and have expressed their opinions on issues that do not reflect the views of the party as a collective entity, Ramesh added.

He did not name any particular leaders, but the party’s statement said senior leader and member of Rok Sabah on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US and a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump. This is the day after Shashi Taroh’s comment.

Thiruvananthapuram MP had welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit as “a significant development as Modi was the fourth head of government appointed by President Trump.”

Tarohl’s comments on Friday were former chairman of the opposition of Rok Sabah Rahul Gandhi, who alleges that Modi is covering up allegations of industrialist Gautam Adani’s corruption, and the opposition. He was in conflict with the position he had been taken away by his leader.

Defending his position, Tarour argued that he cannot always speak only in terms of party interests. He said he spoke in the national interest as “a responsible stakeholder in Indian democracy and an elected representative of Thiruvananthapuram.”

Tharoor said he believes India did well in guiding the US to the tariff negotiation table, raising concerns about how illegal immigration was handled.

He added that in his 16-year political career, he praised the government when it did the right thing, whether it was the parliamentary government or the other parties.

“I was on both sides. I have always been criticized and praised for fairness and justice based on a particular point… We speak from the perspective of party interests. I can’t. I’m not a party spokesman,” he told reporters.

On Friday, MP Thiruvananthapuram welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit, saying: The huge concerns we have all dealt with. For example, on trade and tariff issues, they sat together and negotiated serious matters, and decided to reach a conclusion by fall (September to October). ”

On the issue of illegal immigration, Taroul said: I think he was absolutely right in his position. I hope some things were said in a closed room, not in a press conference. ”
