Madison Keys spoke about her charity work Kindness Winds after her Australian Open quarter-final victory over Elina Svitolina. The American tennis star said the inspiration for this initiative came from her desire to give as many children as possible the opportunity to play tennis.
On Wednesday, January 22, Keys played in her fourth Australian Open quarterfinal, facing Svitolina. The Americans entered the match with a 3-2 head-to-head lead and extended their lead with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.
In the post-game interview, Keys was asked about the charity he founded, Kindness Winds. She argued that tennis is not the most accessible sport, so through her organization she wanted to give children the opportunity to play tennis and experience its benefits.
“I felt like tennis had brought so many opportunities into my life and I wanted to be able to give that to as many people as possible. Tennis isn’t the most accessible sport, so I decided to give it a try. “We wanted to get equipment, new balls, new courts and give as many kids as possible the opportunity to play tennis,” Madison Keyes said.
“I think this opens up a lot of doors and I think it builds a lot of really great attributes. I think the more kids that play tennis, the better. That’s kind of my goal. ” she added.
Founded by Keyes in 2020, Kindness Wins is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “promoting kindness to young people, kindness to ourselves, and kindness to others in difficult situations.”
