Just weeks after its theatrical release through New Line Cinema, The Lord of the Rings: Battle of the Rohirrim will be available digitally from Warner Bros. Discovery. This animated take on Tolkien’s lore will be available to stream on Premium Video on Demand on Friday, December 27th.

The film can be purchased on PVOD through Prime Video for $24.99 or rented for 48 hours for $19.99. It will also be available on AppleTV, Vudu, and other platforms.

Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s Index to the Lord of the Rings saga, The Rohirrim War is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films and follows the legendary House of Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan. tells the story of the fate of .

A sudden attack by the wise and ruthless Dunlending lord Wolf (Luke Pasqualino), who seeks revenge for the death of his father, forces Helm (Brian Cox) and his people to make a bold move in the ancient fortress of Hornburg. Forced to make a final stand. A fortress that later became known as Helm’s Deep. Hela (Gaia Wise), Daughter of Helm, finds herself in an increasingly desperate situation and must muster the will to lead a resistance against a terrifying enemy bent on total destruction.

The film is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Japan’s Sora Entertainment Productions, directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), and stars LOTR film veterans Philippa Bowen and Jason. Produced by DeMarco and Joseph Chow.

Rated PG-13, The Lord of the Rings: Battle of the Rohirrim didn’t reach the same level of success as Peter Jackson’s live-action film. The $30 million production started in fifth place domestically with $2 million on December 13th, and $7.37 million ($15.37 million worldwide) as of the digital release announcement.

While the film has obvious fan appeal, earning an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience-based Popcorn Meter, critics say it’s a source of character and story depth. Instead, we judged the picture to be mostly a grand spectacle and a deep dive into the series, and rated the picture at 47%. RT.
