Warner Bros. has officially announced two new projects in the DC Universe directed by James Gunn. Director James Gunn’s DCU officially kicks off with the premiere of Creature Commandos in December 2024 and continues to expand with more than a dozen projects in the first chapter of the DCU, Gods and Monsters. Several other DCU movies and shows are in development. However, as James Gunn revealed, only projects with solid scripts will be announced.
On December 13, 2024, Warner Bros. will announce two new DCU movies: “Clayface” and “Dynamic Duo.” ‘Clayface’ will be written by ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ creator Mike Flanagan and produced by ‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves in collaboration with Lynn Harris. Dynamic Duo will be an original animated feature directed by Arthur Mintz, written by Matthew Aldrich, and produced by Matt Reeves. Clayface is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2026, and Dynamic Duo on June 30, 2028.
What the release dates mean for Clayface and Dynamic Duo
Clayface and Dynamic Duo appear to be closely tied to other DC projects
The Clayface movie in the DCU fits the title “Gods and Monsters” very well, especially considering that Clayface makes his DCU debut in Creature Commandos. Clayface is scheduled to be released in September 2026, less than a month before The Batman – Part II’s current release date of October 2, 2026. With Matt Reeves producing Clayface, this small period won’t affect either series. There may also be no overlap between Gunn’s plans for the character in the DCU and Reeves’ possible adaptation of the same character in the Batman series.

The dynamic duo behind Dick Grayson and Jason Todd has no direct competition yet. However, Marvel Studios has one untitled MCU project scheduled for May 2028, about a month before Dynamic Duo’s June 2028 release date. Since Dynamic Duo revolves around the first two Robins, Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold could be released sooner, perhaps in 2026 or 2027.

The DCU will have a big focus on Batman lore sooner or later
The project announced by DCU spotlights lesser-known DC characters such as Creature Commando and Sgt. rock and authority. These seemed to suggest that the DCU would only begin to delve deeper into the stories of its A-list heroes long after the release of Superman and The Brave and the Bold. However, the announcement of Clayface and the Dynamic Duo suggests that the DCU will be exploring Batman’s corner of the DC Universe sooner than expected.
We already have the first, second, and fourth Robins in the DCU. Tim Drake, Batman’s third Robin, has not yet been confirmed to appear in any DCU project.
More Batman-related projects may be announced as we get closer to The Brave and the Bold’s release date. Similarly, DCU movies and shows related to major characters such as Superman and Wonder Woman may also be confirmed. In the same way that Clayface and Dynamic Duo probably have a clear story connection to The Brave and the Bold, Warner Bros. and James Gunn have decided that Superman’s villains , Allies , and possibly a solo Wonder Woman movie or show soon.
