TEHRAN: Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Pakhnejad has been elected as rotating chairman of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for 2025.
In a press release on its website, OPEC confirmed the election of next year’s president and asked Gabon’s oil minister, Marcel Abeke, to become its rotating president in 2024, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing Iran’s state news agency IRNA. He expressed his gratitude for his leadership. .
According to IRNA, Paknejad, who was elected as OPEC’s new president, emphasized his determination to use all his abilities to maintain OPEC’s consistency, unity and progress.
The OPEC Council renewed Haitham Al Ghaith’s term as Secretary-General for an additional three years starting August 1, 2025, according to an OPEC press release.
Iran is scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the organization on January 1, 2025. The OPEC presidency rotates annually among OPEC member countries.
OPEC is a permanent intergovernmental organization of 12 oil-exporting developing countries that coordinates and unifies the oil policies of its member countries.
