Bhubaneswar: Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Saturday said that India is emerging as a major pole in the global economy and its demographics, development process and huge potential as an export economy make it poised to climb the ladder. He said that
Interacting with the media during his visit, Thurman said India wants to be its own pole in a multipolar world and “that is true both geopolitically and economically.”
Mr Thurman said India and Singapore are now on a new level of cooperation. “India is a country we want to work with,” he said, concluding his two-day visit to Odisha with a visit to Bharat Biotech’s vaccine manufacturing unit in Bhubaneswar.
While the semiconductor ecosystem, skills infrastructure and sustainability are key priority areas between the two countries, connectivity is also an area of focus. He said talks with Indian leaders made it clear that they were keen to expand the air services agreement, which would benefit both economies.
“It was revised about 10 years ago, but we are now looking ahead 10 years. Aviation as a tool has the potential to help India emerge as a player in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business. “It has a hidden sexuality,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue during a September visit to Singapore, home to companies ranked as world leaders.
President Thurman noted the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and said it is about working on projects that continue to build trust between the two countries, not just specific industries. “There is a lack of trust internationally, but Singapore and India are demonstrating how it is possible to build trust in today’s world, even in an uncertain and difficult world,” he said. I will be able to show it.”
