KOCHI: The investigation into the stampede incident at CUSAT Technology Fest that resulted in the deaths of four people has culminated in the filing of a chargesheet. The incident took place on November 25, 2023, during a music night held at the open-air auditorium of the Kalamassery campus.
The chargesheet filed by a team led by Thrikkakara ACP in the Kalamassery Magistrate Court names three accused: former principal Dr Deepak Kumar Sahu, teachers Girish Kumar Thampi and N Biju. are. They are charged with culpable homicide.

The tragedy is believed to be due to overcrowding, inadequate crowd management and poor infrastructure, including a single entry/exit gate. The crowding was caused by attendees rushing into the auditorium to seek shelter from the rain, causing people on the stairs to fall over each other.
The investigation highlighted the negligence of university authorities in not submitting a letter requesting police protection. However, the investigation team has made it clear that the former registrar will not be named as a suspect. The indictment was filed 1 year and 2 months after the devastating incident and marks a step toward accountability for an incident that has rocked the state.
