India captain Rohit Sharma put to rest speculations about his Test future in a candid interview with a broadcaster during the lunch break on the second day of the Sydney Test match. In a candid interview, Sharma detailed what went on in the dressing room for the New Year’s Test matches and also confirmed his plans for the near future.
In a surprising interview in which he was praised for his honesty by former cricketer Irfan Parsan, Rohit admitted that he has no intention of retiring from Test cricket. Rohit decided to withdraw from the eleven after this match due to his poor form and said that he has no intention of leaving the game.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Complete Coverage
Speculations were rife about Rohit’s future media coverage claiming that all was not well in the Indian dressing room. Chatter about Rohit’s future became more prominent after Gautam Gambhir’s pre-match press conference refused to confirm Rohit’s availability in the Test match. Rohit was subsequently left out of the 16-member squad for the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Sharma further testified that although there is no guarantee that he will be able to return to action when India tour England in five months, he is not ready to move away from the format just yet.
“This is not a decision to retire. I’m not going to walk away from this game. But I made the decision to walk away from this game because I couldn’t score with the bat. There’s no guarantee that I’ll be able to score.” Two months later, five years later. Months later, I’ve seen a lot of daily life changing every minute, every second, but at the same time, the people sitting there have to be realistic too. A person who reads a comment box or takes a laptop in his hand and writes does not decide how his life will turn out,” Rohit Sharma said on Star Sports.
Sharma slammed his critics and said he had been playing the game for a really long time and knew what he was doing. In his own way, Sharma said he is a father of two and has the ability to think for himself.
“I’ve been playing this game for so long that they don’t decide when you play, how you play, when you captain, when you step down. I’m a good human being. “He’s a mature man and a father of two. He has some brains and knows what he wants out of life,” he concluded.
I fell down: Rohit Sharma
In his impassioned speech, Rohit also said that he neither took a break nor dropped out of the Test match. Rohit said he had taken the decision to resign and said the decision was his own.
“None of the three (laughs). I stood up. If I say one thing, there will be 50 interpretations. I spoke to the coach and the selectors were very simple. For now. I’m not making runs.’ I’m not doing well, so we need guys who are doing well. Therefore, players who are not in good shape cannot lead the team at the moment. In my mind it was simple. I understood that I had to convey it to the coach and selectors and they supported my call,” Rohit said.
