Despite being a huge fan of the two-time World Cup-winning former Indian captain, it is rather strange to equate MS Dhoni, social media and public relations.
Reflecting on his glorious journey since making his international debut 20 years ago, Dhoni in a recent interaction said that his manager had often suggested using social media for public relations and how he has learned from it. I explained how to move away.
“I wasn’t a big fan of social media, I had different managers and they kept encouraging me.
“When I started playing in 2004, Twitter and Instagram were all the rage and managers were telling me I should do all that PR stuff and I had the same answer…me. If you are playing good cricket, you don’t need PR,” Dhoni said on the latest episode of ‘Tread Talk’ on Eurogrip Tires.
He added, “So it was like, if I have something, I’ll post it, and if I don’t have it, I won’t post it. I took the stress off of who has how many followers, who’s doing what. I don’t care about that. If I take care of cricket, everything else will take care of itself.”
Dhoni, 43, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, is preparing for his 18th season in the Indian Premier League and admitted that maintaining peak fitness has not been easy.
“I’m not as healthy as I used to be. I have to put a lot of effort into what I eat now and I’m doing very specific things to be fit for cricket. We are not fast bowlers so our demands are not too demanding.”
“What really helps me is that I do a lot of sports in between eating and going to the gym. So when I have time, I like to play different sports, like tennis, badminton, soccer, and It keeps me hooked. It’s the best way to get into fitness,” he said.
Dhoni, who is regarded as one of India’s most successful captains, does not miss international cricket as he feels he has contributed his little bit to his country’s pride.
“I thought I would have more time, but unfortunately I haven’t had much time. I don’t miss international cricket because I always believe in thinking everything before making a decision.
“Once I make a decision, I don’t have to think about it too much. So whatever I was able to do for my country, I am very satisfied with God’s grace.”
The wicket batsman said: “Other than that it was fun. I got to spend a lot of time with friends and get to ride my bike more instead of long distances. It’s something very close to my heart. ” he added.
“I really enjoyed spending time with my family. My daughter is asking when you will be back.”
Dhoni led India in 60 Test matches, of which they won 27, lost 18 and drew 15. With a winning percentage of 45.00, he is one of India’s most successful skippers across all eras.
He led India to number one in the ICC Test rankings and is the only captain in history to win all three ICC limited-overs titles: 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. Continuing.
Dhoni credits his parents and close friends for his success in life.
“My parents… had to make a lot of sacrifices, so I feel like I owe a lot of the discipline that I have today to them. Friends are always important. Up until second grade and third grade. In my case, my friends changed a little after class 3, but when I went to plus 2, I made new friends.
“So I’ve always felt that friends are a very important part of myself, because it’s friends who can make a big difference. Discipline helps you choose the right thing. So “I am grateful to my parents and close friends,” he said.
Dhoni, known for his calm demeanor on the field, captained India in 200 ODIs, with India winning 110, losing 74 and drawing five. He led India in 74 T20I matches and led the team to 41 wins.
“First of all, you have to differentiate between what is controllable. When you start complicating things, it becomes very difficult to understand. Like cricket, people talk about what cricket is. , and then come up with various explanations.
“One of the best ways for a batsman to play cricket is to see the ball and react to what is thrown at him.
“For me, the things I can control in cricket are I have to practice well, I have to eat well, I have to be fit, how much sleep I get before the match, how much water I drink, how much water I have Was he trying to get information about the match?”I disagree.”
