Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes Shreija Aier should play county cricket to regain his spot on the Indian Test team. Iyer was recently removed from the team for the upcoming five-match series against England.
He lost his place after his second Test at Visakhapatnam in a series against England last year. For the upcoming series, India has chosen Sai Sudarsan.
“Shreyas Iyer doesn’t have a soft touch.”
Panesar, who scored 167 wickets in the 50 Tests, said he needs to work on the techniques in the conditions of the sailors while the 30-year-old Iyer works well on the flat, bouncy track.
He added that Iyer must prove his qualifications as a national selector by performing in Cricket County.

“Schreyers Iyer has very good techniques for flat tracks and resilient pitches. I don’t think his technique is lined up at the moment. That’s what I think. His hands are a little bit intense and he’s not playing slow on swing balls.
“So, as far as techniques go, I think his game is probably not suitable for swing conditions at the moment. But I think he needs to play county cricket to join the test team as far as Schreyja Eyer.”
“If he’s serious about playing Test cricket, he’ll have to find the county and play county cricket season, and prove to the selector that his technique has become standard for swimming strings and balls,” Panesar added.
Excellent shape of Shreyas Ire
Schreyers Iyer has been in good shape recently. During India’s Champions Trophy victory in Dubai, he was the second-highest runner in the tournament, averaging 48.60 and earning 243 runs in five matches.
In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season representing the King of Punjab, Iyer continues his strong run. He averaged 46.90 and scored 516 runs in 15 games, scoring a top score of 97 in his 50s.
