What do you do when the love of your life who disappeared without a word shows up on a dating app 11 years later? It turns out that while mindlessly swiping through potential connections, your ex-fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters) ) is the uncomfortable position that Detective Cat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazer) finds herself in when she encounters a criminal. In Missing You, a limited series based on Harlan Coben’s mystery-thriller novel, Kat and Josh’s brief interaction on the app is just one part of a larger plot.
“Say the love of your life disappears, and one day you’re scrolling through one of those apps,” writer and creator Corben tells Tudum. “And then all of a sudden, he’s back, and it leads to death and destruction, family secrets, and all kinds of buried reasons why he left in the first place.”
The series begins with a man on a horse panicking. Before he falls from his horse, we see a vision of a woman and hear a mysterious voice saying: I love you. ”
The scene then cuts to Kat, wearing a sleek leather jacket and red lipstick, on her way to meet a man for a date. Exchanging some witty banter, the couple prepares to leave the restaurant when Kat hears a commotion among the kitchen staff. A man just stabbed someone and is now brandishing a knife at his girlfriend because she cheated on him. Kat takes action to defuse the situation, much to the surprise of her date.
“When you look at Kat, she seems very grounded and strong and resilient, but in reality she’s very childish and vulnerable, and you see glimpses of that sometimes,” Eleazar said. Talk to Tudam. “I think that’s true for most people, just like putting on a mask when you go out into the world. Then, very few people know the real core of who you are.”
